Domaine La Barroche is a family-owned estate with 36 acres of vines, Domaine La Barroche nevertheless features a variety of terroirs in the northern and north-eastern part of the appellation, reflecting the best in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The variety of soils, diverse grape varieties, and hundred year old vines make Domaine la Barroche stand out.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is famous for its complex blend of grape varieties: 13 different ones! However, Grenache remains the most important, the soloist that provides focus to the entire symphony.
Most of the Grenache vines were planted in the early 19th century and have been lovingly tended generation after generation. These vines are thus over a hundred years old and have produced several legendary vintages.
Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault, Clairette Blanche, and Vaccarèse are the main grape varieties grown on the estate. However, if you look carefully, you will also see a few old, forgotten varieties here and there among the oldest vines – mostly Terret Noir and Clairette Rose.
Today, Domaine La Barroche is represented by a veritable patchwork of family members, in much that way that Châteauneuf-du-Pape's 13 grape varieties reflect the appellation's complexity. Each person has their own individual character, but the same love of the terroir.
The story of Domaine La Barroche revolves around people, terroir and passion. The passion is for the good things in life – the love of simple, honest pleasures. At Domaine de Barroche, we love our vineyards, our wine and all that is authentic.
Some update on this new vintage, and the haverst 2015.
The season weather has been perfect (cold spring - warm summer with sufficient rain and a great number of Mistral days) and allowed us to pick up very qualitative grapes.
The harvest happened from September 11th to October 1st. Syrah and Cinsault were picked up the 1rst week and the rain of the 2nd week did not affected the Grenache and Mourvedre that were harvested later in the Month. The new cellar has done its job very well so far and is very happy to welcome such a vintage…
