Our Estate

Château Vieux Planty, located 60 kilometres north of Bordeaux on the right bank of the Gironde Estuary in the village of Saint Aubin de Blaye, carries the appellation: Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux.

Château Vieux Planty, created with the EARL Ovide & Sons in 2001 spreads over 36 ha. The grape varieties produced are Merlot (72%), Cabernet Sauvignon (13%) for the reds and Sauvignon Blanc (15%) for the whites. The diversity of the soils (sand, gravel and clay) allows the grape varieties to fully express their aromas and allows us to create wines with a fruity, round but opulent.

Our vineyard, which is about 20 years old on average, is cultivated in the traditional way with a strong emphasis on quality rather than productivity. Part of this care includes the ‘culture en lutte raisonnée’, which means using the strictest minimum of chemicals, in order to preserve the environment and to keep our product as natural as possible.

The harvesting takes place as late as possible. The grapes, once sorted and fully destemmed, are macerated cold for 4 days, allowing the extraction of their great aromas. Fermentation is achieved at low temperature using natural yeast with regular stirring of the lees in order to preserve the fruit aromas.

Each step from the vineyard to the wine making, is meticulously planned and fully controlled so as to maintain the highest possible quality at every stage.

It is the passion that motivates our winemaker, Arnaud Ovide, who works tirelessly to reflect the wonderful inheritance of our soil in the different ranges of our wines.

Our hard work is paying off since Château Vieux Planty is consistently rewarded with prizes and medals at various international competitions but the ultimate reward for us is the pleasure we give you when drinking our wines.
