BAIGORRI Maceración Carbónica 2017

Our interpretation of the most original wine of the Rioja Alavesa seeks to combine modern wine making techniques by gravity with the traditional methods of our ancestors. Young red wine made by whole cluster fermentation of the variety Tempranillo, grown exclusively in the Rioja Alavesa. Before being fermented in stainless steel tanks, the whole clusters macerate for a long time at cold temperatures. Short intracellular fermentations in combination with the traditional stomping of the grapes. The wine is bottled and released in spring after the harvest.

Vineyards

Several plots situated in the villages Samaniego, Laguardia und Leza, Rioja Alavesa, with its typical calcareous clay soils. Average altitude: 600 meter. Vine training system: mainly Gobelet (bush vine system). Sustainable viticulture with 100% handcraft

BAIGORRI 

Bodegas BAIGORRI is located in the town of Samaniego and at the foot of the mountains “Sierra de Cantabria” .

The winery, by architect Iñaki Aspiazu Iza in 2002, is influenced by a gravity-led reception system for the grapes or, in other words, that the winery reduces the maximum usage of mechanical elements by using the law of gravity to maneuver grapes and wine. This involves various levels and heights that give a beautiful and immense see-through glass-box sensation. 

BAIGORRI executes a meticulous selection on his vineyards. We apply a rigorous selection process, fruit of our know-how and the annual observation of the vineyards.The grapes for our wines come from a sustainable growing, in harmony with the nature, thanks to the use of traditional and modern ways. They are grown in old vines, deeply rooted in our native land and culture, providing us with a unique quality. They are harvested by hand and processed in a very smooth way, in order to turn the genuine flavour of Nature into wine. The high quality of our wines come directly from the vineyard and it is clear reflection of the soil, the climate and the tradition of the Rioja Alavesa.
