History
Barco del Corneta is the fruit of Beatriz Herranz personal and professional experience after years linked to the world of vineyards and wine. After being involved in a recovery project for old Garnacha vines in Cebreros, making a wine called La Fábula, Beatriz Herranz returned to La Seca (Valladolid) and to the family vineyards, in particular, to his grandfather's vines.
This is the beginning of Beatriz Herranz adventure with a small winery, dedicating her body and soul to the Verdejo. With an artisanal elaboration, Barco del Corneta is a commitment to rescue the essence of Verdejo, respecting the identity of the variety, the soil and the climate.
A perfect location for its siliceous sand and boulders, with a layer of clay and limestone subsoil in its deepest layers. At 718 meters of altitude, this vineyard passes long winters and hot and dry summers, which make its vines, look for water resources deep in the soil. This gives the authentic expression of the grape, thanks to its work in ecological, thus respecting the environment and the biodiversity of the vineyard.
In 2013, convinced of the benefits of the old vineyard, they found some very particular plots in Alcazarén (Valladolid) with vines of unknown age (around 150 years), at 770 meters of altitude and with old clones, with little or nothing to do with the clonal selections of new Rueda plantation. And in 2014 comes the next recovery project with old vines of the area of the Natural Park “Arribes del Duero” in Zamora, under the name of Juan García. With these vineyards of about 80 years old, with granite and quartz soil, at 670 meters of altitude, we make our red wine.
