Domaine Christian Moreau Chablis Grand Cru - Valmur 2018

The slopes, like those of all the Grands Crus vines, are located on the right bank of the Serein River.
This terroir form a valley between Les Clos and Vaudésir. Our parcels are located in two exposures, one in the north-west exposure (30 ares), and one in the south-east exposure (70 ares).
Density plantation: 7000 vines/ha.
Average age of the vines: 50 years.

Harvested by hand, carried by small trailers which unload the grapes by vibration to avoid crushing, then we use a sorting table to eliminate unripe or damaged grapes.
Pneumatic winepress.
Cool racking.
55% of the aging process is done in stainless vats.
45% in barrels (90% in 1,2 and 3 years old barrels, 10% in new and 1 year old barrels) for a period of six months.
Natural tartaric stabilisation after 12 months of aging.

Domaine Christian Moreau Père & Fils  -  Six generations

The Moreau family established themselves in Chablis, in Burgundy, in 1814 when Jean Joseph Moreau founded the wine and trading company J. Moreau et Fils. Five generations later, winemaker Christian Moreau, mentored by his father in the art of winemaking, made his first vintage in 1972. In the following ten years the Moreau’s sold their shares in the tradingcompany, and in 1985 J. Moreau et Fils, was bought by the wine company Boisette in Nuits-Saint-Georges.

In 2002, thirty years after Christian's first vintage, he regained the full rights from the Boisset's leasing contract, not only to exploit their own vineyards, but also to make and market the wines belonging to their Domaine. Thus, Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils was created. The same year Christian released his first vintage with his son Fabien who, with a degree in oenology and business administration, was given a free rein as Head Winemaker and Managing Director.

The domain's 12 hectar include vines in some of the most sought after vineyards in Chablis: Les Clos, Blanchot, Valmur, Vaudésir grand crus and Vaillon's premier cru - plus the family’s monopole Les Clos des Hospices, a parcel within Les Clos purchased by the family in 1904 from Chablis Hospice. The vines, in average 40-60 years old, are picked by hand and grown organically since 2008 and certified in 2013.

Today, Christian has retired, but is still close by to help, while Fabien is the super-star winemaker and the brain behind the desirable wines from Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fil.
