Hubert Brochard – Teamwork in the famous region of Sancerre
Domaine Hubert Brochard, is a small winery owned by the Brochard family, and which is located in Chavignol, a village in the famous region Sancerre in upper Loire Valley. The story of the domain begins in the early 1900s, when Aimée Brochard inherited her father’s vines, which she and her husband Hubert devoted their whole lives to tend. Later, they were joined by their son, Henri and his wife Thérèse, who continued to take care of the vineyard. Today, the domain is run by their children Daniel (manager) and Benoît (winemaker), with help from Daniel’s wife Christiane, their daughters Caroline and Anne-Sophie (oenologist) and their son-in-law Sébastien Geoffroy.
For the Brochard family, the prosperity of the domain is based on teamwork. Benoît and Anne-Sophie make the wines together, with the best of modern techniques and respect of traditions, in order to refine the wines and continuously improve their quality. At present the vineyards spread over 62 hectares on the three appellations; Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé and IGP Val de Loire. The vineyards, 46 ha sauvignon blanc and 16 ha pinot noir, are worked with bio-control, and the Sauvignon Blanc special cuvées, single-vineyards, and all the Pinot Noir are manually harvested. The vines with an average age of 40 years are planted in in soils with chalk, flint and clay, which bring attractive aromas to their classically blanc, rosé, and rouge styled Sancerre.
