The company

Where the Bordeaux varieties express their maximum potential.

Leopold I of Tuscany is located at the foot of the hilly area of the municipality of Bibbona in the Livorno province overlooking Bolgheri, and has been owned by Mr. Nicholas D'Aria since 1996 with the purchase of 31 acres highly  suitable to wine production.

The vineyard area is 13 ha which will increase over the years to cover about 20 ha with a structure of medium-textured soil, with a good presence of clay supported by base elements.

Hence the choice of an environmentally friendly crop and of a low production per ha, to guarantee its high quality and a recognizable personality.

It is crossed over its entire extension by ventilation constants from both the sea and the land, generating the correct heat exchange within the vineyard itself which features a density of 9,600 vines per ha cultivated on bilateral spurred rows.

The soil and climatic conditions of this area allow the Bordeaux varieties to express their maximum potential in quality with complexity, elegance and robustness.

Our philosophy

Wine must be the expression of the vital forces that have produced it.

Since I discovered a passion for wine fifteen years ago, my wish to create my very own product was born, thus combining my passion for viticulture with my experience of country life. To produce quality wines whilst respecting the environment and enhancing the area. To create a simple wine that was looked after in every detail following history within the Tuscan tradition, and that was in balance with and attuned to the land, and yet with an eye to the future.

A bold combination of ancient tradition and avant-garde according to bio-natural criteria of soil, plant and climate today has allowed me to obtain a simple and natural product, but one of great quality. My respect for nature and for my roots are very important to me even though it is much more difficult and expensive, starting from the use of natural fertilizers in the fields, strictly handpicking grapes and crushing rollers of very soft rubber latex.

In our glasses the flavours of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, grown almost near the sea, are opening up with easily recognisable Mediterranean flavours traceable to the very roots that generated them. Wine must be the expression of the life forces that have created it and it is this philosophy that I want to convey to the consumer, to lead them towards the appreciation of my wine.
