Robert Parker: This has to be among the finest 2017s from the Duero zone
I also tasted the 2017 Terreus Paraje de Cueva Baja, which had amazing balance even after only one month after bottling. There is amazing finesse and balance, the oak is beautifully integrated and the wine is floral and terribly pleasant. They did a softer vinification with a shorter maceration, and they used less new oak. It all paid off. This has to be among the finest 2017s from the Duero zone. 9,900 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2019.

Paraje de Cueva Baja

A warm winter followed by a rainy spring that provided enough water reserves to cope with a late summer, with a hot end to August. The diurnal temperature variation in September allowed a progressive maturation with balanced concentration in the grapes.

Fresh, crisp fruit, great breadth and harmony in a refined and precise vintage, a more Atlantic style than its predecessors.

Ageing: 20 months in French oak barrels. Bottling date: August 2018. Production 9.897 bottles & 300 magnums.

Since 1978, Bodegas Mauro has been characterized for producing quality red wines with vocation for ageing and limited production with balanced wines which express the identity of the terroir.

On the Spanish wine scene, Mauro produces wines with a modern style but with roots, devoted to tradition and with signs of self identity which make them recognizable.

In Tudela de Duero and Santibáñez de Valcorba our 80 ha of vineyards, planted mainly with tinto fino (tempranillo) and syrah, are located on light soils, well filtered, easy to work and balanced texture, limestone or clay-calcareous depending on the parcel.

The winery produces around 280,000 bottles per year in total of the three wines: Mauro, Mauro VS o Vendimia Seleccionada, which has a longer ageing period and the grapes sourced come from our very best vines in the parcels.
