VARIETIES: Tempranillo 100% o Tinto del país.

Pre philoxeric Century old vines located in the southern slope of Pico del Otero , in the Trasdeotero spot. Clay soil, at 950 m altitude which lets the Tempranillo keep all the freshness despite the difference between the night and day temperature during summertime. Really low yield around 1400 kg/ha.

By hand in plastic crates of 18 kg starting 16th October. Small plots were harvested at the same time after a deep ripening control.

Double selection of bunches and berries in our selection belt takes care of the perfect quality of the grapes we receive in our facility. Finally grapes are lightly crushed and go to our vats by gravity where indigenous yeast makes the alocholic fermentation. Skin maceration last around 20 days. We only use the free run juice to send the wine to new barrels to make the malolactic fermentation with daily batonnages.

New French oak barrels during 6 months and 12 months in Frech oal fourde of 2500 liters.

ALCOHOL  14,5%

Cherry red colour with garnet glints. Flavours of black fruits on the nose ( prune, blackberry and cranberry) with light hints of clove and species with a cedar Wood finish. ON the palate it is intense, velvety fresh and very long with spicy notes and balsamic coming through.

Our winery is in Coruña del Conde, small village in the province of Burgos surrounded by heritage dating back to the Celtibers, the Romans and El Cid Campeador. (41°45’53.3″N 3°23’47.5″W)

And a rich wine making tradition has remained intact.

Our vineyard covers over 20 hectares, with a high proportion of centenary vines over which, we continuously carry out a strict quality control in order to obtain the best raw material.

The 900 meters altitude and the variety of soil helps us create tasty wines with different and marked personalities, making the most of our grape varieties; Tempranillo, Albillo Mayor and Merlot. All our grapes are harvested by hand in 18 kg. cases, then delivered to the winery going trough a double selection table (bunch and berry) and after, stored in a cold chamber to process grape reception at low temperatures. This will aid the pre-fermentive maceration and will help achieve a balanced deposit with regard to the soil, the climate and the altitude.

Small stainless-steel and concrete deposits holding allow us to process the different vineyards of the area separately, and to extract the full potential of each “terroir” around the landscapes of Coruña del Conde.

All fermentations star spontaneously, with indigenous yeast from the own grape. Also periodical “batonage” takes place to enhance the wine volume and smoothness. Wines remain aged in French oak a minimum period of 12 months to then being refined in “foudre” before bottling.

Ermita del Conde has a project. Our mission is to carry out, with the collaboration of our rural partners, a social commitment benefitting the environment and its families.

We are heading a project aimed at recovering ancient vineyards and enhancing the awareness of a native grape variety, Albillo Mayor.

The main goal of our recovery is based enthusiasm:

– we are enthusiastically determined to recognise and recover vineyards and old native vines left over from the invasive viniculture of foreign grape varieties that were imposed upon this region.

– enthusiasm by involving veteran vine growers and farmers who, feet firmly planted in the ground, work daily hand by hand, vine by vine, we intend to promote with enthusiasm a future for their children and future generations, by planting the seeds of success within this revival. From these roots a commercial enterprise is envisaged, providing fair value, quality harvests that reward the growers and viniculturists for their efforts in the fields.

Another objective of our team is to revolutionise the recognition of our best local grape variety strains, Albillo, Tempranillo and Bobal (also known as Valenciano) and identify the lost viniculture of rosé that once first reigned in Ribera del Duero area.

One of the great advantages aiding our project is our privileged location. At an altitude of almost 1000 metres the land produces wines of great development potential necessary for the production of a balanced and persistent wine displaying fresh notes and vividness.

At Ermita del Conde we are committed to a blend of tradition and innovation. We conduct training activities in the cellars for farmers and their children. We involve them in field test operations in pre-phylloseric terrain, treating each identified vine strain as an artwork, to be interpreted and appreciated differently.
