Sometimes the Tempranillo (specially in a good vintage and comingfrom old vines in selected vineyards) ripens towards a darker, deeper,spectrum of fruit (dark plums, liquorice). Time has mellowed this ripe and rich wine leaving it silky in spite of the intensity and depth. Tannins are now polished and the finish is long and fine. Drink now.

Grape sourcing

Bush vines represent the traditional vinegrowing method in Rioja, it offers betterconduction for the juices of the plant, protects is from the heat, and offers a better aeration whenthe vine is old enough.• We have selected some 120 hectares, 70 of them are ours. They are classiffied in 17different landscapes, which are later fermented in 17 different French oak vats.• Sustainability is more than a cliché for us. It is part of our philosophy and it is ouronly future.• Most of them (85% in Haro and surrounding villages) are located in Rioja Alta, butthere is an undeniable part of Alavesa (really close to Alta anyway) and Baja.• We have selected and kept 550 clons of Tempranillo that we haveidentified throughout Rioja.• Our range shows the two profiles of ripening of the Tempranillo: that of the red acidfruit (strawberry, cherry) and a darker fruit one (more oriented towards the plum)• We work mostly (with the only exception of Sela) with Vines older than 30 years,when maturity delivers

The wine, a vehicle to transmit sensations, but also a means totransmit a landscape, a Riojan landscape. We want ourwines to show a sense of place• We play with 17 different landscapes every year• We want to respect the vintage, the features that makethe vegetative cycle unique every year (no irrigation, no blend)• Wine is meant to be enjoyed, the palate is the real index, wetry to avoid saturation, we reward elegance• Our range shows the two sides of the ripening of theTempranillo: the red acid fruit (strawberry, cherry) and darkfruit (black plums)• Oak is complementary, never to play a key role

In the late 80’s Mario Rotllant and Carmen Daurella arrived to Rioja with the firm intention of creating a project that brings something new to the world of wine - and in 1987 RODA was founded. The name of the winery combines the first letters of their surnames. 

In 1991 the construction of the winery began, being completed in three separate phases ten years later, with custom-made facilities adapting in each phase; the number of vats to the selected vineyards in each vintage, a bioclimatic room, product of an unprecedented bet for innovation, and two aging rooms dug directly in the rock

RODA controls around 20 vine parcels distributed in the best ecosystems of the area, from which every year only the best ones are vinified. In order to keep the identity of the vintage of the vineyards, RODA doesn’t buy wines from other wineries. In addition RODA use sustainable farming to avoid chemical synthesis products and for the maximum respect of nature’s processes and cycles. Harvest is done by hand.
