Färgen är rubinröd. Parfymen är intensiv, fin och elegant, med toner av körsbär konserverade i alkoholen, berikade med kryddor med kanel och kryddnejlika. På gommen exploderar det i all sin finhet och elegans tack vare de täta och silkeslen tanninerna. Utmärkt kropp som gör smaken harmonisk och ihållande. Utmärkt korrespondens mellan näsa och munnen.

The opulence and decadence is really something here with dried fruit, figs, meat and black truffles on the nose and palate. It’s full-bodied, layered and creamy with intense, round tannins and a finish that lasts for minutes. Best after 2022, but already a joy to taste.

Selection of the best grapes harvested in mid-October and vinified in stainless steel tanks.

Cold pre-maceration 10°C: 3 days (during which two punchdowns a day are performed in oxygen-free conditions)

Hot maceration at 28/30°C: approx. 10 days (during which punchdowns and pumping- overs in the air are alternated)

Length of alcoholic fermentation: 15/17 days (at controlled temperature)

Malolactic fermentation: in vats of cement

Ageing: in wood (partly barriques, partly barrels) for 34 months. During this period the wine is racked and blended every 4 months

Refinement in the bottle: 16 months

San Filippo Wine Estate

The small winery San Filippo, is located in southern Tuscany among the splendid Montalcino terroirs, where the most elegant and ageworthy Brunello wines are created. San Filippo, founded in 1972 and bottled its first Brunello five years later, was acquired by the current owner Roberto Giannelli in 2003.

Convinced that San Filippo had not reached its full potential, Roberto underwent an extensive renovation of the estate, while introducing organic farming which reduced production from 5,000 to 3,000 cases annually. With the reliable help of skilled technicians in vinifications, the wine production was reorganized to revolve around naturalness and quality.

The property, covers 22 hectares, half of which consists of old vineyards, with mainly Brunello (a local clone of Sangiovese grown in Montalcino), Syrah and Merlot. Along with his winemaker Paolo Caciorgna, Roberto has gained ever-greater success and signed many important vintages, especially Le Lucere cru, which received 100 points from James Suckling. According to the wine guru, Robert Parker San Filippo is home to some of the best boutique Brunello today, with  wines that show the powerful side of Brunello with ample inner grace.
