This wine is a blend of grapes from several old vineyards and vines more than 60 years old, farmed using the gobelet system. The vinification of each vineyard’s harvest is made in unique French oak vats of 5,500 l each.

TASTING NOTES

Intense cherry color. Great aromatic complexity. Very characteristic plum, raspberry and blackberry nose. Very balanced. Long, sweet and spicy, with a touch of wood, powerful and soft and in perfect harmony. We recommend letting the wine breathe a bit before enjoying it.

THE PICO

The “Pico” (peak) represents the famous Pico Cuadro, a small mountain with valley views that is unique in the Ribera del Duero area.

THE CUADRO

The “Cuadro” (frame) represents our winery’s window, from which you can see Pico Cuadro Mountain, that stands out over Ribera del Duero’s plain.

GOLDEN MILE

Our winery is located in the “Golden Mile” of the Ribera del Duero region, which spans 22 km between Quintanilla de Onésimo and Peñafiel in north-central Spain. The area is recognized globally for its prestigious vineyards and wineries.

VINEYARDS

The unexpected and extreme contrasts of our region give as a result an exceptional grape.

PHILOSOPHY

Our philosophy centers on the selection of old vineyards with a low yield per hectare (2,000 – 4,500 kg). Our vines are an average age of 60 years old, planted on dry slopes at an average elevation of 850 meters above sea level.

TRADITION

We work with traditional techniques, respecting nature’s rhythmsidentifying the optimal moments to work in the field, creating an intimate connection with the vineyard and its environment and ensuring the same health for the plant as well for the land.

OBJECTIVE

Our objective is to express the individual character of each vineyard through our wines, delivering a real taste of the local terroir with maximum purity and individuality. 

THE BOUTIQUE

Our winery employs the latest, modern systems to complement the traditional handcrafted techniques.

ELABORATION AND AGING

The grape is harvested in 12 kg boxes and is brought to the winery in trucks cooled to 4º C to minimize damage. Once in the winery, we start with a thorough selection of ripe bunches, carrying the grapes by gravity (we do not use mechanical pumps) into French oak vats of 5,500 l each. Each plot is vinified separately–each vat contains the harvest of just one vineyard.

The alcoholic fermentation is activated with indigenous yeasts. The subsequent soaking lasts 2 or 3 weeks, depending on the year and the unique characteristics of each wine.

Our barrels are 80% French oak and 20% American oak, both with fine grain. We replace 30% of the barrels each year.

The duration and the method of aging is different for each wine and depends on the vineyard, the age of the vines and especially the harvest and the unique characteristics of each wine.
