Pago de Carraovejas was just a dream in the early 70's... a dream of his owner José María Ruiz, a young segovian full of energy and curiosity, who managed step by step to turn it into reality creating this huge project in Ribera del Duero which is linked to the Ruiz Aragoneses family.

The winery facilities occupy more than 26,000 m2 of a vanguard built space around beautiful plazas that flank the providing incomparable views on the vineyard from the southeast to the Botijas valley and the Peñafiel Castle.

the VINEYARD
200 hectares of vineyard where we grow Tinto Fino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot on trellis in a Cordon Royat Double and Vertical Vase or Terraces on our plots with a 30 – 40% slope.

the WINERY
A unique process which combines working with gravity, using our own yeast and bacteria from the terroir and the delicate aging process of the wood. All of that with the exhaustive control of all the processes.
Produced from the following grape varieties
Tinto Fino (78%), Cabernet Sauvignon (11%) and Merlot (11%).
Soil
The terraced vineyard is located on a hillside at 900 metres above sea level with 30%-40% slopes. High minerality limestone soils, with white calcareous salts and a high compacting degree. The vineyard was planted in 2001, with a Double Cordon Royat training system.
Grapes are handpicked and taken to the winery in small crates . After spending a few hours in a refrigerating chamber the grapes are placed into the vats by gravity.
Both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are carried out in small French oak Haute Futaie vats with yeasts and bacteria found at the estate, allowing the wines to fully express the terroir and respecting each vintage ́s unique characteristics.
The wine gently flows into the extra fine-grain French oak barrels by gravity flow where it will spend 12 months.
Fined with natural egg white and bottled by gravity with selected natural cork stoppers in April 2014.
