Tasting note
A blend of 71% Grenache, 27% Syrah and 2% Mourvèdre, the Ken Forrester 2017 The Gypsy, in a screw-cap bottle, is a mid-weight red with plenty of ripeness and stickiness at its core. There is cherry preserve, resin, tarry spice and a hint of black olive. The mouthfeel is medium-lean, and there is some bitterness to close. With fruit from vines planted in 1959, the Grenache boasts natural concentration. Syrah vines were planted in 1999. It is fermented in oak and aged for one year before the blend is created, then it goes back into oak for finishing. This is a release of 11,000 bottles.
