Abadia Retuerta - Seleccion Especial 2020

Selección Especial is the first wine from Abadía Retuerta in which the best wines of the vintage are selected and blended together. All of the wines come from the estate’s own vineyard, which has been separated into 54 distinct plots. This wine mostly consists of Tempranillo, which is native from the Duero Valley, and it is complemented by other varieties from the estate, chosen by tasting. The objective is to balance the quirks of each vintage while maintaining the wine’s characteristic style.

Selección Especial is a faithful reflection of the vintage, the terroir and the personality of Abadía Retuerta.

Dark red in colour. It has a clean and attractive nose, with aromas of red fruits like redcurrant, raspberry and cherry. There are also mild herbal and menthol notes, as well as a subtle creaminess. On the palate it is smooth, refreshing and pleasant, with highquality tannins, both fine and mature: they are perfectly integrated, ensuring a long, aromatic finish.

The wine team - Abadia Retuerta

The winter rains ensured a good start to the cycle. After a warm spring, sprouting began unusually early, around mid-April. This was followed by above-average temperatures in May, albeit with rains it making the vines grow quickly. Summer was very warm, September was not overly hot, and it was marked by many days of rainfall. This conditioned the make-up of the vintage, as from this point onwards there was a sudden drop in the acidity of the grapes and the alcoholic content did not go up for three weeks.
