Specifikation ARTEMIA 2018

Tasting notes

Nose : A very aromatic nose with grilled and black berries note and a nice minerality. Mouth : The very balanced mouth associates fruit and power of syrah and the richness, the unctuousness and the spices from old grenache.

Food & Wine pairing

Serve at 18°C accompanied by terrines, roasted red meats, meats in sauces, game. We recommend especially to pair Artemia with duck and scrambled eggs with truffles.

Jeb Dunnuck: A great finish
91-93 A Hermitage-like bouquet of smoked black frelegant, seamless red that has ample fruit, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It’s certainly an utstanding wine and I suspect will keep nicely for 10-12 yearsuits, smoked meat, violets, ground pepper, and bacon fat gives way to a medium to full-bodied,

Chateau Pesquie Artemia 2018

Artemia is the top cuvée of Chateau Pesquié. It is an attempt to show the amazing potential of the Ventoux terroir through two single vineyards, one of grenache and one of syrah. This wine shows in the same time great density, concentration and elegance and freshness. It will start showing its best after at least four of five years of keeping. The Chaudière family chose the name "Artemia" as it means in the same time good health and integrity in ancient Greek.

The Grenache parcel is one of the most elevated of the estate, south – south east oriented, on a very pebbly lime-stones soil that has an amphitheater shape. The Syrah parcel is at about 340 meters, south – west oriented, on a very old alluvion soil.

50 % Syrah (yields of about 25 hl / ha) 50 % Grenache (yields of about 20 hl / ha).

The grapes are picked at an optimal maturity beginning of October, drastically selected and destemmed. Long fermentation and maceration in an oak tank. Malolactic fermentation in barrels. Aged 18 months in barrels 50% new and 50% of second and third year with a selection of very tight grains and deep but light toasting. Bottled at the Château.

Château Pesquié

A family adventure lasting three generations

Château Pesquié is the story of a family passionate about the Ventoux region, a region where vines had been cultivated for more than thousand years.

In the early 1970’s, René and Odette Bastide bought Château Pesquié. The area, AOC Côtes du Ventoux, was not created until 1973. Thus, making René and Odette pioneers of this new AOC, with  the beginning of a local production toward - quality rather than quantity. As a result of  René and Odettes work with reconstructing the vineyards, the vines are now in average 35 to 40 years of age, and the oldest close to a hundred years.

In the mid-1980’s their daughter Edith and son-in-law Paul Chaudière decided to take over the family estate. They passed the Consultant Sommelier exams at the “Université du Vin”, and went on several research trips to other great wine regions. Having completed this intensive preparation, Paul, Edith, René & Odette finally set up the Château Pesquié cellars in 1989, leaving the local Cooperative.

They carried out their first vinifications in 1990, which was a fabulous vintage. The Quintessence 1990 is still beautiful at the moment! At the time, the Appellation had fewer than 10 independent cellars and, once again, the Chaudière family stood out as pioneers in the Ventoux AOC.

In 2003, Paul and Edith’s two sons, Alexandre and Frédéric, took over the Domaine. They are continuing the family tradition: to harness the potential of the outstanding Ventoux terroir and to make extraordinary wines.

Château Pesquié is now a leading estate in the Ventoux AOC and the southern Rhone Valley. The new generation hopes to take it to the next level!
