On the nose, fruity, elegant and offers nice freshness, nice tension as well as a bit of tight grain, depth, nice definition and some complexity. Nuances of bright boysenberry, purple plum and more lightly lily/lilac combined with hints of cuben pepper, crushed berries, cherry blossom as well as fine hints of licorice and an imperceptible hint of sweet spice/sweet tobacco. The palate is fruity, balanced and offers a mineral frame, juiciness, suavity as well as good definition, a certain gourmandize, fat, a slightly tight grain and a certain tension. On the palate, there are notes of pulpy/juicy blackberry, purple plum and more lightly pulpy/sparkling blue berries combined with hints of pulpy raspberry, crushed redcurrant as well as hints of chocolate, caramelization, light tobacco and a subtle touch of vanilla. The tannins are elegant, precise, racy and supple. A fine chew and a very discreet touch of coffee aftertaste.

The 2020 Villemaurine sports a very deep purple-black color, springing from the glass with vibrant notes of black cherry preserves, ripe black plums and wild blueberries, plus touches of Indian spices, menthol and cedar chest with a waft of fragrant earth. The medium to full-bodied palate is soft and juicy with a lively backbone to lift the seductive exotic spices to a nice long and harmonious finish. The blend this year is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, aging for an anticipated 16 months in French oak, 80% new. The alcohol is 14.5%.
