James Suckling

Attractive aromas of spicy mulberries and red plum compote lead to a palate that has a succulent array of juicy fruits in the same berry-plum vein. The tannins are nicely articulated, and the freshness is convincing throughout. Drink or hold.

Robert Parker Wine Advocate

A new release, the 2014 S-Block Shiraz features hints of red raspberries to go along with savory notes of leather, clove, pepper and anise. It's medium to full-bodied, with ample concentration, a dense, creamy texture and a long, velvety finish. While already four years old, it looks to have at least another good decade ahead of it.

Wine Enthusiast

From a single vineyard in the cool climes of Victoria's Pyrenees region, this offers heady notes of cherry, meat, tree bark, chocolate, ground black pepper and spice. The palate is silky and savory, with earthy tannins and a slightly bitter oak note on the finish.

Tasting note

Domaine Terlato & Chapoutier is the joint venture between Rhône producer Michel Chapoutier and the Terlato family, planted in the Pyrenees region of Victoria. This Shiraz comes from the L Block, a dry-farmed, south-facing parcel within the Malakoff vineyard, where shale and iron-rich soils lend the wine its structure. The grapes were destemmed and fermented in cement and stainless steel before three weeks of maceration, then aged eighteen months in French oak. The result is a deep, dark ruby wine with aromas of blueberry, wild cherry, chocolate and mint, leading to a full-bodied palate of black cherry, plum, eucalyptus and white pepper, closing on a long, tannic finish.

What Makes It Special?

What sets this wine apart is Michel Chapoutier's single-parcel philosophy, borrowed from the Rhône and applied for the first time to this exact block of the Malakoff vineyard. Its unique shale and iron soils, combined with dry-farming on a south-facing slope, give the wine unusual textural depth and concentration, distinguishing it from broader regional blends and showcasing the site's individual character.

« Maison M. Chapoutier är en av de mest kända – och betydande – producenterna i Rhônedalen. Det är känt för sina viner från både norra och södra dalen, men i synnerhet för sina röda och vita Hermitage-viner, gjorda av Syrah och en blandning av Marsanne respektive Roussanne. » Historia Familjens historia i Rhône går tillbaka till 1808, men det var inte förrän 1879 som Polydor Chapoutier förvandlade familjen från att odla druvor till att...
