I also tasted the 2018 VS, from a cooler and rainier year than 2017 and with an absence of frost, delivering a healthier crop with good natural concentration, finesse and harmony. This wine is sourced from two vineyards, and the grapes were fermented by vineyard in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and matured in French oak barrels for 26 months. This is very young and primary, with harmonious tannins but in need of time in bottle to deliver what's inside. As with the other 2018s, this has complexity and depth; the wine is juicy, and the tannins are not hard. There is great balance and superb aging potential. 43,362 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2021.

The year was marked by low rainfall, with a dry winter and a mild spring that brought forward both budburst and flowering. The summer began with high temperatures in July and high diurnal temperature variation from 15th August. Without any thinning of the grape bunches before the harvest, as of 12th September the first grapes were picked with moderate yields, small grapes and crunchy seeds.

TASTING

Exuberance and impressive array of aromas. Full of red fruit, floral. Nuanced, dynamic on the palate, with crisp tannins and silky texture.

AGING AND CONSUMPTION

Mauro VS 2015 was bottled in March 2018 after ageing for 26 months in French and American oak barrels. Expressiveness and subtlety in one of the most attractive vintages of the last five years.
