Cameron Douglas - Master Sommelier
[vintage 2020]

Very attractive bouquet, ripe, fresh, pure and new. I really like the texture of this wine with a fine almost mealy mouthfeel emphasising the use of lees and acidity to drive these ideas through the palate. Citrus and fresh white-fleshed orchard fruits, just a whisper of tropical fruit then a fine fresh green herb quality. Excellent balance and length with complexity and youthful charm. Well made with good drinking from the day of purchase and through to 2025+.

Sommeliers Choice A wards
[vintage 2022]

Fresh cucumber and green bell pepper aromas with a melon fruit palate, bright acidity, citrus, orchard fruits, and a quick, herbal finish.

James Suckling

Some pleasant grass, lemons and light grilled-asparagus character deliver a medium-bodied white of interest and taste. Fruity and yummy at the end with some tangy acidity. Drink now. Screw cap.

Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The 2023 Grande Sauvignon leads with a nose rich in spices and inflections of toasty oak, white currant, juniper, quinine and cold tea. On the palate, the wine is concentrated and really fans out through the finish. Actually, the finish is where this wine comes together—like a concertina, with flavor and texture folded neatly and splayed outward, making for a big impact and plenty of enduring complexity. This is a really good wine here. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

Tasting note

Not one bound by convention, The Marlborist Grande Sauvignon is a bold departure from the classic Marlborough style. Fermented entirely with naturally occurring yeast in old French oak puncheons, it is an alternative style of sauvignon blanc with an alluring array of orange blossom, green apple and golden-fleshed nectarines with hints of brioche and nougat. This is a moreish wine with a rich, creamy palate underpinned by a long, citrus finish. In order to retain maximum flavour and mouthfeel, this wine was bottled without filtration. This minimal intervention wine may throw a sediment which is perfectly natural.

Fruit was sourced primarily from the Linklater Family Vineyard in Renwick. Anelevated river terrace with young, alluvial soils overlying large deposits of greywacke stone, the combination of free-draining soils and naturally low yields allowed the vines to ripen small, golden bunches of intensely flavoured fruit.
