Il Borro, our terroir

Our vines grow on the Valdarno hills at the foot of the Pratomagno Mountains, a perfect place for a vineyard. The unique pedoclimatic conditions infuse our wines. A great lake covered the entire valley during the Pliocene epoch leaving an enduring legacy in the chemical composition of the soil, a land ideal for making fine wine. Today mild winters and a temperate climate allow us to make the best use of this legacy.

Autochthon grape varieties, such as Sangiovese, and those of the “Tuscan tradition,” such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot grow side by side adapting perfectly to the variability of the soil. In all 45 hectares are under vine, 300 to 500 metres above sea level, divided between five varieties of grape to extract the very best wines from our precious terroir.

The uniqueness of a wine lies in the absolute synthesis between terroir and wine maker, between nature and being. Every man has a vocation that drives him forward. For our winemakers it is the harmonious path furrowed by strain, commitment and love, a daily walk along the rows of vines through to the production of our wines.

A process in which their simple passion turns the humble grape in to the elixir of the Gods.

Men, with hands marked by the ground, engaged in each step of the production process, from cultivation to wine-making, focusing on a single objective: to put into each bottle all the best this terroir has to offer.

Vin Santo del Chianti Occhio di Pernice shows a deep amber color with copper hues. The bouquet has notes of apricots and prunes surrounded by shades of walnut, hazelnut and chocolate. Sweet, rich, well-balanced on the palate, it carries notes of dried fruit with hints of spices and herbs and a finish of ripe citrus.
