Sangiovese
The team at Tolaini discovered that the spectacular clay and galestro soil, slope and exposition of Tolaini Montebello vineyard number 7 produced impeccable Sangiovese: pure in spirit, and transcendent in quality. Their mandate became clear: to create a single vineyard 100% Sangiovese, Chianti Classico Cru, a wine of extraordinary complexity, with a powerful aromatic signature and palate of explosive cherry, tobacco, leather, licorice and spice notes, with a firm, balanced structure of tannin and acidity, for a wine of both power and elegance. It merits the highest designation in the Classico DOCG.
Tasting notes
This is a sensual wine with notes of cherry fruit, tobacco, leather and hints of licorice and spice. The elegant tannins balance nicely with the fruit, all underlined by a fabulous stratum of acidity, making this a complex wine with incontestable structure and power. A long and satisfying finish confirms this Sangiovese is true to its terroir.

Tolaini makes some of the best wines in Chianti Classico and specifically in the sun-kissed Castelnuovo Berardenga appellation. Set aside some time and a steak Diane recipe (with cream and cognac) for the Tolaini 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Montebello Sette. It is a gorgeous creation showing enormous depth, elegance and textural fiber all at once. The bouquet opens to wild flowers, cassis and blueberries with smoke, tobacco and potting soil. This is a silky and nuanced wine that shows mid-weight intensity and silky tannins on the close. - Robert Parker
