Wine Advocate
Licking my lips in anticipation

92-94/100 – Wine Advocate (#239 – Oct 2018): Looking just as good as the 2016, a prospective blend of the 2017 Ventoux Quintessence had me licking my lips in anticipation. It's full-bodied and rich yet crisp on the finish, just loaded with blueberry fruit and hints of dried spices

Jeb Dunnuck
Fullbodied richness

92-94/100 – Jeb Dunnuck (August 2018): “It has a little bit of a CôteRôtie vibe in its ripe raspberry and blackberry fruits, floral, and peppery herb-driven aromas and flavors, and hits the palate with medium to fullbodied richness, ample tannins, and a building sense of minerality on the finish.

Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The 2017 Ventoux Quintessence turned out a bit disappointing after the performance of the prebottling sample. Dominated by notes of leather, spice and cola, it just seems to lack the freshness I saw the previous year. It's full-bodied and velvety in texture, with plenty of concentration, and should drink well for the next 4-5 years.

One of the largest estates in the Ventoux, Château Pesquié is now completely organic, with the goal of being biodynamic in 2019. The Chaudière brothers, Alexandre and Frédéric, deserve great credit for building on their parents founding vision.

Château Pesquié is one of the great estates of the Ventoux, and thanks to the indefatigable efforts of Frédéric Chaudière, the wines are widely distributed around the globe. For many consumers, this this be the entry point to Ventoux, so it's important that the wines represent the region well—thankfully, they do. With Frédéric recently being elected head of the appellation, expect more visibility for this underrated region. While Fred is the globetrotting marketer, his brother Alexandre handles the viticulture and winemaking at the estate, whose impressive chateau nestles in the bucolic countryside above the small village of Mormoiron.

This year, because of COVID-related travel restrictions, we chatted via video link instead of at the property. Fred is high on the quality of the 2019s, calling the year,

The Chaudière Family started this cuvée in 1990 and chose the name "Quintessence" to highlight the exception and the concentration of this wine. Complex and powerful yet with a great balance and a beautiful freshness, it is the result of a drastic parcel selection.
