Tasting note

A collaboration between Michel Chapoutier and the Laughton family, Domaine Cambrien La Pléîade Shiraz hails from Victoria's Heathcote region. Sourced from ancient Cambrian soils, this 2014 vintage showcases the unique mineral-rich terroir. The wine is a deep, brooding red, offering a complex bouquet of dark fruits, liquorice, and a hint of smoky spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated, with supple tannins supporting layers of blackberry, plum, and an earthy minerality, leading to a long, persistent finish.

What Makes It Special? This Shiraz is a testament to the remarkable fusion of Old World winemaking philosophy with New World fruit. The Cambrian soils of Heathcote impart a distinctive mineral signature, elevating the wine beyond a typical Australian Shiraz into something truly unique and age-worthy, showcasing precision and power.

The wine team - [Laughton & Chapoutier]

« Maison M. Chapoutier är en av de mest kända – och betydande – producenterna i Rhônedalen. Technical sheet

Cambriens is a small vineyard operation/partnership between Michel Chapoutier (renowned for his Rhone Valley cuvees) and the Laughton family, who claim to possess some of Heathcote’s as well as Australia’s finest soils. Cropped at a measly 8 hectoliters per hectare, this spectacular 200-case garagiste debut release exhibits a dense purple color along with gorgeous aromas of smoke, graphite, white chocolate, black currants, sweet berries, and notions of mocha as well as espresso. Full-bodied yet extraordinarily precise and elegant, this beautifully made, pure, intense, seamlessly constructed Shiraz possesses considerable tannin, and should age effortlessly for 10-15 years. Kudos to Michel Chapoutier and the Laughton family.
