Tasting note

Juicy and dark fruit overturned by the glass from this Grenche based Cotes du Rhone. Dark plum, cool minerality and ripe blackberry. The taste has great depth and complexity, as a result of the old vines that the grapes come from. A good balance with great ripe fruit and tannins to clean the gums.

Grenache dominated cuvée from one of Chateauneuf-du-Pape's leading manufacturers. Excellent Cotes du Rhone is made from grapes from vineyards that are only separated from Chateauneuf-du-Pape a small dirt road. The oldest plots here are planted back in 1933 and 1946. The fields are planted with 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 5% Cinsault. The wine is fermented with its natural yeasts at 27? 30 degrees. The wine is stored only on cement and steel tanks to preserve the maximum purity of the fruit.

Food pairing: Roasted red meats, meats in sauces, game (venison haunch, rabbit or wild boar stew, stuffed poultry, poultry with truffles...). Soft cheeses (camembert, brie...)

The wine team - Domaine de Ferrand 

Unquestionably one of my favorite producers, Philippe Bravay's Domaine de Ferrand always produces incredibly perfumed, complex, Provençal wines that are never over the top yet loaded with character. The estate is located in the northern part of the appellation and produces a classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape (80% Grenache, 8% Syrah, 8% Mourvèdre, and 4% Cinsault, partially destemmed and aged 22 months in a mix of stainless steel and concrete) as well as the Cuvée La Garriguette, a relatively new cuvée first made in 2022 from the oldest vines planted in 1904 and 1920 in the Bertaude lieu-dit. The Garriguette is one of the more serious, age-worthy wines in the appellation and is worth seeking out. The estate also produces several solid Côtes du Rhône offerings, including an all-Syrah La Ferrande that shows a remarkable Northern Rhône-like character.
