Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
They produce an unusual rosé, the 2016 Finca Sangrado, produced with Tempranillo and 30% Mazuelo (Cariñena) whose must from the bleeding of some tanks fermented in used 225-liter oak barrels with indigenous yeasts and later matured in 225-, 400- and 500-liter oak barrels, where it was kept for 20 months without racking.

It looks more like an aged pale red and has notes of strawberry preserve and sweet spices. It's juicy and textured and has very fine tannins with a dry and serious finish. Quite different from the majority of rosés out there. 2,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2019.

They use oak to ferment the white and rosé, and they age their wines in 1,100 barrels averaging eight years of age. They produce around 100,000 bottles and sell the rest of the wine to other wineries.

Gregorio Martínez - Finca Sangrado 2016

VARIETY 70% Tempranillo and 30% Mazuelo.

VINEYARD “La Dehesilla” parcel at 700m altitude, north-facing.

SOIL Predominantly ferritic clay with sand and tertiary rocks (mudstone).

PLANTING YEAR 1980 (12 ha).

ENOLOGY Ricardo Cantera.

ELABORATION Hand-harvested into small trailers of 2,000 kgs; destalking followed by pre-fermentation cold maceration of 7 – 9 days in stainless steel vats without sulphur and with natural carbon dioxide. It is then fermented with wild yeast at a maximum of 18°c; part of the wine is then bled off directly into barrel, the rest being left on the skins until the end of the malolactic fermentation. After pressing the wine is aged in barrel for 12 months, a part of which remains on the lees. It is then aged for a further 4 months in tank prior to bottling.

TASTNG NOTE

Intense cherry red hue with purple rim. On the nose there is a mixture of red and black fruit overlying a base of blue flowers (lilac) and subtle balsamic hints. With oxygenation earthy notes appear which bring out yet more the floral and black fruit aromas. It is a fun wine, both fresh and ripe at the same time. In the mouth it is broad with silky tannins where the fruit (both red and black berry) and the freshness, together with the balsamic flavours make it very long in the mouth with a very agreeable aftertaste.
