I loved the nose on the 2018 Syrah Zio Tony Ranch, and it's just pure Syrah goodness with its ripe blackberry fruits as well as pepper, game, olive, and violet aromas and flavors. More medium-bodied on the palate, it has a solid sense of freshness and purity, building structure, and a great finish. It will benefit from a year or three and keep for a solid decade.

The 2018 Syrah Zio Tony Ranch was made with 40% whole cluster and aged 18 months in 40% new French oak. Deep ruby-purple, it has gregarious blackcurrants, cracked pepper, pencil shavings, char and gentle thyme hints on the nose. The palate is full-bodied, grainy and classically styled with minerally fruits and a long, floral-laced finish. 382 cases produced.

Savory in black pepper, leather and grippy tannin, this wine is intensely powerful and ripe. Whole-cluster fermentation was used on 40% of the grapes and 40% new French oak encased the wine for 18 months. With a soft underbelly of silky texture, it rides along to the finish in brambly blackberry jam.
