The plum and chocolate, as well as hazelnut and dried-flower character is prevalent here. It’s full-bodied, yet very refined with lovely, polished tannins and a long, crisp finish. Balanced and focused. Drink or hold.

2018 DVO was the official debut—DVO's 2017 Red Wine is 66% Cabernet Sauvignon and 34% Cabernet Franc, sourced from Mount Veeder, Coombsville and Oakville. In retrospect, this was probably a wise decision, as this wine seems to already be showing its age, moving into its cedary, cigar box stage of maturity, with pronounced hints of smoke and tobacco. Still backed by plummy fruit, this full-bodied effort is a bit coarsely textured in the mouth and open-knit. While it should remain very enjoyable over the next several years, there seems no point in additional cellaring.

The 2017 Maya, 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Cabernet Franc, is deep garnet in color. A little closed and broody to start, it soon unfurls to reveal notes of fresh blackberries and mulberries leading to wafts of underbrush, dusty soil, dried herbs, and crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate is elegantly styled and refreshing, with lightly chewy tannins and a long earthy finish.
