Robert Parker: This is a round, lush and heady Bordeaux-style red blend
2018 was a cooler year with wines that have less alcohol and more freshness. I tasted two vintages of most wines, including the entry-level red 2018 Petit Hipperia and the 2017 from a very different year. This is a round, lush and heady Bordeaux-style red blend of 39% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot and 6% Syrah with a Mediterranean touch of aromatic herbs. It's ripe and round, generous but showing balance through extra freshness. This is clean, ripe and unashamedly modern. 48,300 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2020.

Petit Hipperia is more than a wine, it&apos,s an annual project where our different red varieties are combined in a unique way. The characteristics of each harvest and the evolution of the different single varietals will define in each edition a different wine.

This way we will present each year a new edition in collaboration with an artist, who will offer an original work for the labels paying tribute to the horse, symbol of our winery.

Petit Hipperia is a contemporary wine, dynamic and marked by our native soil’s personality. It&apos,s our youngest version, fruity and simple, suitable for all palates.

Tasting Notes:
Fresh and fruity, with balsamic notes, in mouth it has volume, structure, maintains freshness, with a toasted aftertaste. It is an uncomplicated, pleasant and easy drinking wine.

The philosophy of the cellar is to produce very high quality wines from grapes grown in the surrounding vineyards, with a balanced composition, harvested by hand at the optimum moment of ripeness and with the capacity of aging both in the barrel and the bottle. As for the design of the wines, we aim to create wines which respect the individuality of the grape varieties and the expression of the terroir in each of our wines.


Vallegarcía is, probably, one of the best equipped and most modern wineries in Spain. The fermentation area has 24 tanks, all them stainless-steel and double jacketed for temperature control during the fermentation process, and also a top of the range pneumatic press. The crushed grapes bursting with must enter the steel tanks where they are chilled to 8ºC and remain there for a certain time, between 72 and 96 hours, this is called pre-fermentation cold maceration and during this process the fresh fruit aromas are extracted from the grapes. Afterwards the fermentation begins and over a period of 21 days the must slowly turns into wine and, by pumping juice over the fermentation cap, more aromas, more colour and the structure that the polyphenols in the grape skins give to the wine are extracted. At the end of the fermentation process the pomace is pressed and the wine is put into barrels.
