Robert Parker Wine Advocate

This wine is the equivalent of the village bottling from San Filippo. The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Dei Comunali offers a 360-degree view onto Sangiovese with tangy forest fruit, star anise, white pepper and licorice. The oak aromas take on more prominence given this wine's baritone personality. It offers a solidly constructed finish with hints of roasted coconut or macadamia nut over a spicy mid-weight finish. It unfolds to nice balance.

James Suckling

Really pretty fruit with pure berries and cherries with flowers. It’s medium-bodied with medium round tannins and a juicy finish. Shows a citrusy undertone to the whole thing with fresh acidity that runs long. Give it two or three years to come together. Better after 2025.

Decanter Magazine

The ‘Comunali’ bottling hails from the estate’s historic vineyard bringing together fruit from original 1972 plantings with younger vines. The northeast facing site sits on sandy clay with gravelly deposits and reaches 280 metres. Maturation is primarily in large oak casks. It is an appealing mix of fruit, spice, and earth. Tamarind, cocoa and juniper weave through cherry and blackberry. Midweight and lively, the palate is built around sour cherry. Citrus zest accentuates a pleasant tartness. Polished tannins give a firm spank, and the acidity has an assertive bite. The finish wafts with a suggestion of truffle.

Tasting note

The Brunello di Montalcino has aromatics of dried cherry, licorice, and menthol and cedar. The palate is upfront with firmly structured tannins, crunchy red plum, tomato leaf, incense, and orange zest. It was aged for two years in a combination of barriques and large barrel. Allow 3-5 years in cellar to harmonize and drink 2024-2040.
