Tasting note

The colour is an attractive garnet red. The nose, intense and expressive, offers fine aromas of red fruit (cherry, strawberry) and notes of brown sugar. Well balanced on the palate, fresh and round.

Blessed with undisputed natural assets combined with advantages nurtured over the centuries, Château Montrose has one of the region’s most privileged winegrowing terroirs. The 95-hectare (234-acres) vineyard surrounds the château, the winery and the outbuildings in a single continuous sweep, an exceptional and historically very rare feature. As well as making the vineyard easier to work, this unity means that it can be treated as a single entity, providing ideal conditions for efficient organisation and for monitoring the condition of each parcel. The Montrose terroir corresponds to what geologists call “elite cores”. Over millions of years, a complex process of geological layering resulted in the creation of outcrops, ideal for making fine wines and ensuring natural drainage towards the estuary. The soil on these terraces consists of gravel mixed with sand on the surface over a clay-rich subsoil in which natural reserves form at depth, providing the vines with the water they need

Vänstra stranden | Médoc & Péssac-Léognan

Extrema förhållanden ledde tidigt till hårt mögeltryck som minskade skörden vid vissa egendomar, men torrt och varmt väder med start i mitten av juli räddade årgången. De bästa röda är täta och tanninrika, med något högre alkohol och lägre syra, men fantastiskt driv och definition.

Högra stranden | Pomerol Saint-Emilion

Den regniga första halvan av säsongen minskade tidigare än den vänstra stranden, med torra förhållanden under andra halvan som gynnade ler- och kalkstensjordar. Men vinerna är mer inkonsekventa överlag, med några vackra exempel. Andra visar något strama, örtartade profiler; Senmognad Cabernet Franc är en nyckelspelare.

Tertio de Montrose 2018 är ett rött vin från den prestigefyllda Bordeauxproducenten Montrose i Saint-Estèphe. Tertio de Montrose" är deras tredjevin, efter Château Montrose och La Dame de Montrose.Som tredjevinet från Château Montrose görs Tertio de Montrose med druvor från de yngre vinrankorna eller de partier som inte anses hålla samma höga standard som de som används för först- och andravinerna. Trots detta håller vinet en mycket hög kvalitet och erbjuder ett utmärkt introduktion till stilen från denna Grand Cru-egendom, men till ett mer tillgängligt pris.

Även om den exakta blandningen för Tertio de Montrose kan variera något mellan årgångarna, är vinet vanligtvis en klassisk Bordeauxblend av Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot och Cabernet Franc.

Tertio de Montrose är ett vin som kan drickas tidigt, men 2018 års årgång, tack vare dess struktur och balans, har potential att utvecklas under 5–8 år. Det är inte lika lagringsdugligt som Château Montrose, men det kan åldras vackert på medellång sikt.

2018 marks an important step in the conversion of our vineyard to sustainable viticulture. The weather conditions resulted in strong pressure from parasites, requiring extreme vigilance. Vineyard management was complex, therefore, but the direction of our environmental approach was firmly maintained. The fine weather and the heat at the end of summer, comparable to 2009, made the vintage, which expressed incredible potential in the cellar.

The year started with a very rainy winter. Spring was wet and warm and bud burst came late. Early flowering came just before some rainstorms in early June, leading to slight problems with poor fruit set. The very strong pressure from mildew did not distract us from our move towards sustainable viticulture and we accepted the prospect of a significant drop in yields.

The hot and dry summer was marked by strong water stress as from the end of July. These weather conditions tended to limit berry growth but strongly increased their concentration.

Harvest took place under perfect conditions. In the cellar, given the small size of the grapes (20% below average) the ratio of skins to juice was definitely in favour of skins. The first extractions, more carefully controlled than ever, quickly yielded very concentrated juices of exceptional richness. Our meticulous work on the press wine continued: 6 very high quality batches supplemented the 61 batches of free-run and enriched the base for our blends.

The first tastings show the signs of a very great vintage, a subtle combination of the fruity aromatic profile of the 2009 and the precision of the 2016.
