Dark ruby red with purple hues. Elegant on the nose, lots of ripe fruit, blueberry and cherry with a subtle herbal savouriness. On the palate intense and harmonious with more savoury characteristics, notes of black pepper and juniper, perfectly integrated acidity and ripe tannins and a lingering, pleasantly warming finish.

[vintage 2021]
The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino Giovanni Neri is the current vintage of this wine, which is punchy and bright with a vinous quality that underlines the wine's freshness and its youthful character. The bouquet is extremely clean and transparent, and you can peer through the red cherry fruit and raspberry to crushed stone and chalky dryness. It shows a beautiful color in the glass that matches the aromatic clarity offered to the nose. The only fly in the ointment is a high 15% alcohol content. Some 6,600 bottles were released.
The Neri family has two new wines to present. The biggest news is the introduction of the top-shelf Brunello di Montalcino Giovanni Neri. The wine—and the vineyard site—is named after Giacomo Neri's dad (and his son), and fruit comes from a seven-hectare vineyard that was planted in 1973 by a farmer named Tocci. [vintage 2022]
A deep magenta color, the 2022 Rosso Di Montalcino Giovanni Neri is sourced from 50-year-old Brunello vines and is a step up from many of the Rossos of this vintage. It is aged for 12 months in used tonneaux and a few months in bottle before release. It opens to deep, layered aromas of blackberries, toasted anise, turned soil, and lavender. Full-bodied, with wonderful structure, it offers sweet, ripe tannins, and though it’s warming, it has good freshness and a floral perfume that lasts through its long finish. It is a rare case where Rosso is taken this seriously and this wine has some real aging potential, as it will continue to improve over the coming 2-3 years. Less than 5000 bottles were produced in this low yielding vintage. Drink 2024-2032.

Tasting note
Giovanni Neri is the Rosso di Montalcino dedicated to the founder in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the estate. A unique wine that respects the philosophy and the style of Casanova di Neri, that are still the same as fifty years ago. Giovanni Neri is the expression of a Sangiovese that mainly comes from a vineyard that has a wonderful exposition, exceptional soil and vines forty five years old.

Deep and young red. The nose shows notes of cherries, raspberries, currants and rose petals. In the mouth it is savory and balanced, a dominant characteristic of the 2022 harvest. The tannins are soft and very fine-grained, the finish is juicy and velvety.
