Andreas Larsson - Tasted

Brick colour; sweet floral and perfumed nose, rather elegant with hints of wild berries, cherry, chocolate box and discreet wood; very fine tuned palate, elegant fruit, bright freshness, fine extraction and tannin, very juicy and fluid with a long, lingering finish; really good potential.

Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The following three single-vineyard expressions all show evident oak tones that need more time to integrate with three to five more years of bottle age. The 2009 Barolo Cannubi is the most feminine and delicate of the three, with fragrant floral tones and bright fruit to distinguish it. The wine is subtle and strong at the same time with a medium build and impressive staying power. You do, however, get lots of spice and roasted coffee at the onset that should diminish with time. This wine is built to last longest with silky, polished tannins. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026.

Damilano enjoys access to some of the best fruit in Piedmont. They own a whopping 73 hectares including important holdings in arguably the three most celebrated crus of Barolo/La Morra: Brunate, Cerequio and Cannubi. They are in the enviable position of being able to offer a wide selection of wines, each one an expression of an individual territory, and they also deliver very respectable entry-level Barolos.

Lots of blackberry and cherry character with hints of spices. Plummy. Full body, with super velvety tannins. The finish is juicy and pleasantly chewy. Lovely austerity. Hard to say if 2009 is better than 2008.

Cannubi is considered the Grand Cru vineyard for the Barolo, an extraordinary wine in terms of style and elegance.

The absolute high quality of the grapes picked on the Cannubi hill is the result of a unique land composition: an unevolved soil with clay-rich marl, grey and white on the surface. The soil in which the Damilano vines are found features a high percentage of sand (up to 45%) that gives the grapes intense aromas of cherry, plum and tobacco, rose and violet in sequence. Its low potassium and high calcium/magnesium content offer the wine a fine and polished touch. Its color is intense and bright, and it has a high polyphenol concentration.

At first sight, what is most striking is its ruby red color with hints of maroon and orange reflections, and an ample, enveloping scent, with clear fruit notes of cherry and plum, and herbal notes of tobacco, liquorish, and cocoa.

The wine embraces the palate with a harmonic, pleasantly dry flavor, with soft tannins and a perceivable body and completeness.
