James Suckling
This juicy, well-balanced Chianti Classico delivers fresh, vibrant red berry and cherry fruit with touches of white pepper and hibiscus. Quite firm and juicy, with nicely chewy tannins and a dainty, succulent finish. Effortlessly drinkable, but will also hold well for the next few years.

Marco called the 2022 harvest ‘a slalom’ between heavy showers at the end of September. He managed to get in most of the grapes for his annata before a localised hailstorm on the 29th. It saw less time in wood but longer before bottling, and was well worth the wait. Exhibiting spectacular purity and vivacity, the nose is a cornucopia of dark purple fruit scented with violet and lilac. This scrumptious mouthful is almost grapey in flavour with a ton of fruit sweetness. Black cherry and boysenberry meet plush, velvety tannins you can sink your teeth into. Succulent acidity buoys all that fleshiness, and hints of pepper flit throughout. A must-buy!

Pouring a deep magenta hue, the 2022 Chianti Classico is inviting and ripe with aromas of black raspberries, cherries, crushed violets, and mossy earth. The palate is polished and pure, with ripe tannins, crunchy, refreshing acidity, and a stony texture. It’s a lovely Chianti Classico that will be fantastic for drinking now or over the next 8-10 years.

Tasting note
The Ricasoli-Firidolfi family traces its origins in the Chianti Classico fabric to Baron Bettino Ricasoli, who created the original formula for Chianti Classico, a blend of grapes, in 1872, and even further back when a family member named Geremia was involved in battles between warring families on the same property in the mid-1100s The Rocca of Montegrossi was a strategic post, located on a plateau, providing shelter for travelling dignitaries. The Rocca di Montegrossi estate is in Monti in Chianti, part of Gaiole in Chianti. The high altitude plateau, with its stony, calcareous soils, is known for its elegant and harmonious Chianti Classico. Experts have recognized the 2021's as among the very best ever made in the region. At Montegrosso, they blend minor amounts of local varieties like colorino and canaiolo with 90% of sangiovese. This wine has a beautiful depth, a testament to the vintage and the rising star of Chianti Classico. Harmonious and long, it is simply impressive for the money. Mushroom pasta continues to be a brilliant match. Wonderful value.
