Tasting note
The origin of this name may come from the name of a man Volumnius or may be formed from the Celtic root vol, introducing a notion of roundness, probably due to the geographical position of Volnay. Vine cultivation was present in the Gallo-Roman era. Volnay was a summer residence of the Dukes of Burgundy.
"Clos des Chênes" contains the word oak: The first Gallo-Roman form was mentioned in the village of Chassagne-Montrachet, where one could find woods or many oaks. Cassanea was the old Latin word. Domaine de Bellene (winery) and Roche de Bellene (negociant) were established by Nicolas Potel in 2008. Labeled as 'Collection Bellenum' in old vintages.
