Godello
Tillverkad med druvor från våra äldsta vingårdar på egendomen. De är sex små "sorter" som planterades i slutet av 1970-talet och början av 1980-talet och som Rafael Palacios förvärvade vid sin ankomst till regionen under åren 2004 till 2007. De ligger på norra sidan av Bibeidalen, i Santa Cruz do Bolo och på en höjd av över 680 meter. De är vinstockar av sorten Godello med en medelålder på 40 år och kloner som återvunnits från gamla traditionella vinstockar inom Revival-planen (återhämtningsplanen för den inhemska vingården i Valdeorras). Dess jordar är ren granitsand, inte särskilt bördig och med låga skördar, vilket ger viner med en markant geoklimatisk karaktär och stor personlighet. Vinodling bygger på respekt för tradition, användning av ekologiska behandlingar och förvaltning av de olika verken inom biodynamiskt jordbruk. Musten jäser på 500 liters ekfat och lagras i 8 månader på fat.

Tasting note

The 2023 As Sortes reminded me of the 2021 vintage. It's perfumed, elegant and harmonious, with ripeness, elegance and freshness, with 14% alcohol and superb acidity that make it balanced and lifted up. It comes from six small vineyards ("sorte" locally) planted at the end of the 1970s and 1980s on the north face of the Bibei Valley at 680 meters above sea level on sandy granite soils that give the wine finesse and elegance. It fermented in 500-liter French oak barrels with indigenous yeasts and matured in those barrels with the fine lees for eight months. There's a sense of purity and precision that I like very much, while the texture has very fine granularity. It's very tasty and clean. 23,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2024.

Rafael "Rafa" Palacios is ecstatic about the quality of his 2023s. He said, "The 2023 vintage corresponds to a typically cool year, which is evident in the quality of the wines. There was good aromatic and phenolic ripeness due to the year, which had more rain than 2024 and milder summer temperatures—it's enhanced by the acidic framework or skeleton of the vintage, which makes it very complete and elegant, one of the best, if not the best, of the last decade." As for 2024, from which I already tasted the entry-level Louro, it "is a slightly more open and accessible vintage, not as vertical as the 2023. For me, it's a more immediate, opulent and flavorful year. The slightly less rain during the season and the higher average temperatures led to a wine with a different profile."

Made with grapes from our oldest vineyards in property. They are six small ‘sortes’ that were planted in the late 1970's and early 1980's and that Rafael Palacios acquired upon his arrival to the region during the years 2004 to 2007. They are located on the north side of the Bibei Valley, in Santa Cruz do Bolo and at an altitude of over 680 meters. They are vines of the Godello variety with an average age of 40 years, and clones recovered from old traditional vines within the Revival plan (recovery plan of the indigenous vineyard of Valdeorras). Its soils are pure granite sand, not very fertile and with low yields, which produces wines with a marked geo-climatic character and great personality. Viticulture is based on respect for tradition, the use of organic treatments, and the management of the different works within biodynamic agriculture.

The must is fermented in 500 litre oak barrels and aged for 8 months in barrel.

 

TASTING

“As Sortes is endowed with a sense of joyfulness, it has aromatic intensity due to the expression of acidity, - grapefruit, red apple, humid boxwood, chesnut flower – and an attractive mineral touch. Cold terrain and fruit blend into medium-intensity breezes. The Godello shows here its more bittersweet side, its angled and cold start on the palate is brilliant, it stretches out, lean, to be picked up at the end of the mouth with a warm, greasy coat and has a long-life script that projects it towards maturity, where the jovial part fades away and the mineral strength of the granite stands out".
