Yering Station  -  the first vineyard planted in Australia

Yering Station is a historic property located in the heart of the Yarra Valley, an hour east of Melbourne, Australia.

Established in 1838, by the pioneering Scottish-born Ryrie brothers, Yering Station was the first vineyard planted in Australia, a landmark in the history and development of the wine industry in Victoria region. The first wine was made at Yering Station in 1845, and the winery  reached early heights, with awards as the best Victorian Vineyard in 1861 and a Grand Prix at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889, the only prize awarded to a winery in the southern hemisphere.

After changing hands several times throughout the twentieth century, Yering Station was purchased by the Rathbone family in 1996. Since then, the family have built a state-of-the-art winery, set up in a beautiful landscape that is known for its architectural brilliance. Creating a port of call for both local and international wine-lovers, the Rathbone family’s vision for the property has led to major accomplishments including winning the ‘International Winemaker of the Year’ at the highly established International Wine and Spirit Competition, London 2004; and the property being inducted into the Australian Tourism Awards ‘Hall of Fame’ in 2006.

Yering Station is one of the jewels of the Yarra Valley region recognised for its commitment to excellence. The winery produces a range of wines truly expressive of the Yarra Valley’s terroir as the classic Chardonnay, with its  beautiful citrus flavour that reflects in the wines. The red wines are made from the Pinot Noir grape variety, which is very different from the others because their taste and aroma are different based on the areas where they are cultivated. Shiraz and Viognier are the other medium-sized grapes that are used. Under the label Yarrabank, they also produce sparkling wine, recognized as one of Australia´s top sparkling wines.

Yering Station is part of the he Rathbone Wine Group, owned by Rathbone family wine business, focusing on making the best cool climate wines from Australia's most iconic wine regions.
